Roo De Kanga replica signboard

Exclusive to the Australian War Memorial.

In the constantly changing maze of trenches on the Western Front, signboards were essential for navigation. Some were beautifully painted, while others exhibited characteristic Digger humour.  Joke names like "Roo de Kanga", playing on the French word rue, or street, were popular. The signs were a typically Aussie way of claiming the trenches as their own.

Perfect for the study or pool room, this souvenir metal sign is a replica of a signboard from the Memorial's Collection (RELAWM00969) and measures 40 x 11 cm.
