E P F Lynch, Edited by Will Davies
The war experiences of an Australian infantryman in France 1916 - 1919. Private Edward Lynch enlisted in the army at just 18. Upon his return from France in 1919, he wrote "Somme Mud" in pencil in twenty school exercise books, perhaps in the hope of coming to terms with the harsh reality he had witnessed in the trenches of the Somme. Published for the first time, Private Lynch's work is a rare, precious find. It vividly captures the horror and magnitude of the First World War, written from the perspective of ordinary infantrymen rather than officers. Paperback, small format, 345 pages.
