Celebration of a Century: RSL Lifecare - The First 100 Years
Peter Bastian and Tracey McDonald
In October 1911 a group of men and women began planning a home at Bare Island, off the coast of Sydney, for ageing and impoverished ex-soldiers of the British Empire. A century later this organisation is RSL LifeCare, one of the largest aged-care services in the Southern Hemisphere, with responsibility for more than 4500 residents and backed by an array of health and ageing strategies and services. Celebration of a Century pays homage to the dedicated people who have cared for the residents, and charts the changes in the public policies on health and aged care over the last 100 years. While RSL LifeCare has much to celebrate the book also considers the future sustainability of this important organisation’s contribution to aged care for veterans and the general population. Hard cover, photographs, 219 pages.
