Images of war: Royal Flying Corps
Rare photographs from wartime archives.
This British book contains selected images from three different Royal Flying Corps albums, offering a unique insight into wartime experiences. Photographs include training shots taken in Canada and at Tangmere, as well as shots of aircraft in and around the River Crouch in Essex, an area with a particular and long standing connection with military aviation. There is a large variety of different aircraft featured, as well as images of pilots and esteemed officers. Also included are a number of photographs from the collection of the late Lieutenant William Shorter, who was shot down over German lines at the age of twenty. These consolidated albums work to illuminate further our understanding of the Second World War and the important part played by the Royal Flying Corps within this wider history.
