Flying the P-51 Mustang DVD
Classic Cockpits series
In 1944, as the Allied daylight bombing offensive moved further eastward into Europe, the North American P-51 Mustang provided much-needed air superiority. It had the range and the firepower to ride shotgun for the bombers, escorting them all the way to Germany and all the way home again. It was, without doubt, one of the most important fighters of the war.
The aircraft featured in this DVD is the definitive version - a P-51D, powered by a Packard Merlin engine, and operated by a group of warbird enthusiasts out of Caboolture Airfield, near Brisbane. It was flown for Classic Cockpits by Matt Hall, an ex-RAAF FA/18 pilot. Flying the P-51 Mustang is a fascinating insight into the cockpit of a classic fighter.
