Our Australian Soldier is a unique exhibition marking the Australian Army's 125th anniversary through the eyes of Australian children.

Featuring drawings submitted by young people from across the country, the exhibition explores how children imagine the soldier: as protector, helper, warrior, family member, peacekeeper, and friend.

Together, these artworks offer a colourful and deeply personal insight into the place the Australian soldier holds in Australia's national story.

Long before they understand military history or current events, children begin forming an image of the Army through family, school, community, and commemoration. Their drawings capture moments of service and sacrifice, remembrance and resilience, as well as the people, animals, symbols, and stories that shape our understanding of military service.

From veterans and historical figures to flood relief, military working dogs, and the Australian flag, the exhibition reveals the many ways children connect soldiers with courage, care, and belonging.

These works remind us that trust and respect for service often begin early, in the imagination of a child.

We invite you to explore this remarkable collection and see how the youngest Australians picture those who serve the nation, and what their drawings tell us about the enduring bond between the Army and the Australian people.
