Harold Freedman’s Mural of Australian Military Aircraft
Harold Freedman’s monumental Mural of Australian Military Aircraft makes its return to the Memorial.
The mural, painted between 1968 and 1972, depicts 315 different types of aircraft from 1901 to 1973.
Carefully and meticulously restored by our art conservation team, it will be on display on the walls of Aircraft Hall for the first time since 1999.

The film—featuring the SE5a and Albatros D.Va aircraft on display in the gallery—depicts military flight and aerial combat during the First World War and uses actual flying footage of the aircraft combined with scale models and digital effects.
