Malaya Patrol
1 min read
This short documentary, filmed for Defence Public Relations, provides an interesting overview, in colour, of Australian personnel operating in Malaya during the Emergency.
The events depicted, including patrolling, were filmed in 1958 during 3RAR’s tour. There are visible changes in infantry equipment. Though some Second World War weapons, such as the Owen Machine Carbine and Bren Light Machine Gun, are still present in some sections, the British-issued L1A1 Self Loading Rifle is now being carried.
Australia would begin its own manufacture of the L1A1 at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory in 1959.
