Dream of the latrine sitter
Description
Painted by Nolan while serving in the Army at Dimboola, Victoria. The artist was bored with army life and longed to go the front line as an official war artist. He embodied his sentiments in a figure 'dreaming' of escaping while sitting on the latrine. The Dimboola countryside is evident in the background with army tents at right and a firing range at left.
