Description
Children playing and sitting in a hole in the road caused by one of the four shells from Japanese submarine 124, which fired on the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney just after midnight on 8 June. Note the shrapnel damage on the corner of the building, on the corner of Small and Fletcher Streets, Bellevue Hill. The general grocery store was owned by Mr and Mrs Richards and they lived above the store.
