Description
Two Australian soldiers, VX27000 D T Noonan (right) and VX20199 R Fishwick (left), part of the prison camp latrine squad, carrying a latrine trough off to be emptied on the day of their release. Both men were members of the 2/21st Australian Infantry Battalion Group which was captured at Amboina early in 1942. The troughs, emptied daily, were used to fertilise gardens. In the background is an open sided section of an accommodation hut, which linked the latrine and the sleeping quarters. This hut was used by the Australians as the officer's mess. The same image is also held at P02654.011.
