Description
Members of the Japanese War Criminals Construction Unit digging and shovelling as they prepare the foundations to build a store house at the RAN War Criminal Compound at an RAN shore base HMAS Tarangau where the prisoners are held. A member of the Royal Papuan Constabulary and a member of RAN supervise the prisoners. Work on this RAN base commenced in August 1948. It was commissioned as HMAS Seeadler on 1 January 1950 and recommissioned as HMAS Tarangau on 1 April 1950. The name was transferred from the decommissioned RAN Base at Dreger Harbour, New Guinea.
