Description

British Army issue jungle green Aertex long sleeved safari bush jacket. The jacket is fastened by four green plastic buttons, with no provision for a fastening at the collar. The same style of green plastic button is also used on the pockets, shoulder straps and cuffs. Below the shoulder on the right hand sleeve is an embroidered 28 Commonwealth Brigade patch, featuring the Queen's crown and the word 'COMMONWEALTH' on a light and dark blue background. Under this is a white tape chevron indicating the rank of lance corporal. On the left hand upper sleeve is a 30 mm red diamond, believed to be a New Zealand unit marking. The two breast patch pockets are pleated and have button flap closures. A pair of waist pockets were originally present, but these have been unpicked, enabling the jacket to be tucked into trousers, a common practise during the Confrontation. An external belt which would have originally been sewn to the back of the jacket has been unpicked and removed for the same reason. A green cotton label sewn inside the right hand waist reads: 'JACKETS BUSH (SCC 15) Green 1950 Pattern Size No. 5' Below this are further size details, manufacturer's marking 'ALBION LTD BELFAST', a Broad Arrow, and the date '1957'. 'SCC 15' relates to the British standard camouflage colour, Number 15 being a jungle green.
