Collection relating to the International Force East Timor (INTERFET), United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) and United Nations Mission of Support to East Timor (UNMISET) service of 2805662 Captain (later Major) Gregory Michael Knowles, C Company, 5/7 Battalion (Mechanised), Royal Australian Regiment, 1999-2000, and B Company, 3 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, 2002.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of two folders containing a notebook, diary, and documents related to Knowles's service in East Timor from 1999 to 2002.

Folder 1 of 2 - Consists of a diary and a Department of Defence Message Notebook. The notebook, kept by Knowles between 1999 and 2000, contains regular entries covering Knowles' deployment and operations in East Timor. The diary contains entries from 14 April to 21 October 2002 and covers Knowles' second deployment to East Timor. He writes of his operations in East Timor, especially in and around Balibo, Suai and Maliana. The diary includes a hand-drawn diagram of Forward Operating Base Balibo.

Folder 2 of 2 - Consists of documents, cards, and instructions related to Knowles' deployments to East Timor. The folder includes: a laminated, yellow INTERFET guidance on the use of force card dated 16 September 1999; a laminated, blue INTERFET guidance card on disarmament and apprehension dated 27 September 1999; a UNTAET blue card of guidance on the use of force; a UNTAET green card of guidance on disarmament, apprehension and detention; a "Persons Detained" tag; a dinner menu from the AUSBATT VI Officers Dinner of 12 July 2002; an INTERFET leaflet, in Tetum and Indonesian, "Labele rai odi ba membrus milisi sira" - "Jangan membalas dendam kepada anggota milisi"; and an INTERFET leaflet, in Tetum and Indonesian, "Keta se ka aponta Pistola halimar nian ba soldadu sira" - "Jangan mengarahkan senjata mainan kepada pasukan".
