Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one log book of Warrant Officer Daryl Hamilton Smith, containing entries dated between 19 September 1941 and 6 August 1943. It covers the period of Warrant Officer Smith’s pilot training in Australia and the United Kingdom and service with 104 Squadron in the Mediterranean. The log book entries record details such as dates and time of flights, aircraft types and numbers, crewmembers, purposes of flights, and additional notes. Some of the purposes of flights include elementary flying training, service flying training, advanced flying training, operational training, and bombing operations over Italy. History / Summary

Warrant Officer Daryl Hamilton Smith enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 21 June 1941. He did his initial pilot training in New South Wales and South Australia, and continued his training in the United Kingdom. Warrant Officer Smith went on to serve as a pilot with 104 Squadron in the Mediterranean. With his unit, he participated in bombing operations over Italy. On 8 August 1943, Warrant Officer Smith died in a flying battle over the Mediterranean Sea. He is commemorated at Malta Memorial, Malta.
