Studio portrait of 3107 Private John James Remilton, 4th (later 56th) Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A miner prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Warilda (A69) on 8 October 1915. He was wounded in action on 18 October 1917 near Westhoek Ridge, Belgium, and died of his wounds at the 17th Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium,on 20 October 1917, aged 26. He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
