Collection relating to the Second World War service of 434306 Flying Officer Allan George Elliott, 550 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, 1943-1946.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains two folders of material relating to Flying Officer Allan George Elliott.

Wallet 1 of 1, Folder 1 of 2 consists of two flying log books of Flying Officer Elliott. The first log book contains entries dated between 11 April 1943 and 19 May 1945. The second log book is a partial copy of the first log book, containing entries dated between 11 April and 2 August 1943. They cover the period of Flying Officer Elliott’s pilot training in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, and service with 550 Squadron, based in the United Kingdom. The log book entries record details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, crewmembers, and purposes of flights. Some of the recorded purposes of flights include elementary flying training, service flying training, advanced flying training, operational training, aircraft conversion, cross country flights, bombing operations over Germany, supply dropping over the Netherlands, and repatriating prisoners of war.

History / Summary

Flying Officer Allan George Elliott enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 12 November 1942. After a short period of training in New South Wales, he travelled to Canada and England to undertake further training under the Empire Air Training Scheme. Flying Officer Elliott went on to serve as a pilot with 550 Squadron, based in North Killingholme, Lincolnshire, England. With this unit, he participated in strategic bombing operations over Germany, supply dropping over the Netherlands, and the repatriation of Allied prisoners of war. Flying Officer Elliott was discharged on 15 January 1946.
