Studio portrait of 1154 Trooper Bute Alfred Charters, 12th Light Horse Regiment (LHR), of Bingara, NSW. The seventh of 15 children and a grazier prior to enlisting in October 1915, Bute Charters, embarked from Sydney with the 12th Light Horse Regiment aboard SS Hawkes Bay on 21 October 1915. He was appointed Lance Corporal (L Cpl) in March 1917. L Cpl Charters was killed in action during the Attack on Beersheba, Palestine, on 31 October 1917, aged 28.
