Description
Identification portrait of 413396 Aircraftman 2 (AC2) Arthur Long, of Laughtondale, Hawkesbury River, NSW. A school teacher prior to enlisting on 17 August 1941, he completed his initial training at Bradfield Park, NSW and was later attached to the RAF. Pilot Officer (PO) Long, a member of No. 467 Squadron RAF, took off from Bottesford, England airfield on Operation Mannheim in a Lancaster EE135 PO-Y with a crew of 8, for a mission over Speyer, Germany. He died on 23 September 1943 when the Lancaster crashed near Altertheim, Germany. He was 23 years of age. PO Long is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, Bavaria, Germany.
