Japanese soldier's Pattern 1930 ankle boots
Pair of other rank's light tan leather Pattern 1930 ankle boots without toe caps. Each boot has five pairs of white metal eyelets to hold the laces. A leather tab is sewn to the back of each boot to assist the wearer in pulling it on. The back and outer edge of each heel is reinforced with a steel plate and the soles have a double row of steel studs. The insteps are stamped in Japanese with an abbreviation of the manufacturer's name, the pattern, 1930, and the year of manufacture, 1933. The inside top of each boot is stamped with a series of perforated holes which read '113'.
These boots were recovered in Rabaul at the end of the Second World War by 6 Military History Field. Pattern 1930 boots were worn with the Japanese Model 90 uniforms, which were developed in the same year.
