History / Summary
This Sunderland carried out the first RAAF operational sortie of the war and was one of the first Sunderlands to be delivered to no. 10 squadron. It was delivered on 21st December, 1939. On February 6th, 1940, P9605 made its first operational sortie on convoy patrol, under Flt lt. CW Pearce. it left the squadron on 14th March, 1942. this Sunderland had a meritorious career with no. 10 Squadron with whom it completed a tour. After leaving the Squadron on 14. 3. 42 it continued in service until May, 1944 when it was classified category E 1 and broken down for spares.
