Description

German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) seaman's (Werft Division) navy blue superfine short walking out jacket. This double breasted jacket has lapels that have a single button hole in each. It has two vertical opposing rows of nine silver coloured metal buttons that bear the king's crown above an anchor on the front and 'KAISERLICHE MARINE / A & S' on the back. The thin silver coloured white-metal(?) facing on the buttons seems to have been pressed onto the brass backing plate. An extra pair of linked buttons has been provided, to enable the front to be loosely fastened. There is a plain dull button and a loop on top of both shoulders to accomodate a shoulder board, and another single silver button under the collar on both sides. There are six buttons on the Brandenburg cuffs. On the upper left sleeve is a single faded yellow chevron. 'H.W.2. / 242. / 08.' has been stencilled in red paint in the middle of the black cotton drill lining. 'Naujoks' is printed on a name tape which is sewn onto the lining just below the manufaturer's markings. A pocket with a slit opening has been let into the lining of the left front panel. The sleeves are also lined with black cotton.
