Water cart, Changi, May 1942
Description
One of the water carts (a converted motor vehicle) used in Changi Prisoner of War Camp. They were filled with chlorinated water and had to be manhandled by the prisoners themselves. This was one of the measured that the Japanese used to conserve the fuel supply. Not only did it save fuel but it was another means of humiliating the white men before the Asiatic population throughout the area. The taps are at the rear above the number plate.
