Description

RAF Bomber Command Operational Film No. 138 and 140. Ops 138 Magdeburg. On 22 January 1944 a 2,000 ton raid was made on Magdeburg, Germany. The film shows pictures of the target ablaze during and after the raid. A still of 4000lb bomb falling into concentrated mass of flames descibed as one of the finest photographs of the war. These films were taken by a RAF cameraman who flew in a RAAF Lancaster "Q" for Queenie of 467 Sqn. Captain of the aircraft was Flight Lieutenant W. Marshall of Sydney. Ops 140, Schweinfurt, Germany. Night attack on 24-25 February 1944 in which all RAAF bombing squadrons took part. This attack followed up an US Eight Airforce raid from which fires were still alight. Excellent shots of target increasingly ablaze.
