Conference between 6 Australian Division and Japanese officers
Description
At 1400 hours on 22nd August 1945, Staff Officers of HQ 6th Australian Division and ATIS Translator boarded a Motor Launch at Cape Wom to proceed to Kairiru Island to hold a conference with Captain Noto, Chief of Staff to Rear-Admiral Sato Shiro of the Japanese Navy. These Japanese officers are in charge of the Japanese force estimated at approximately 800 on Kairiru and Muschu Islands and they are cut off from their main force in New Guinea. Also identified: Major T. Fogarty; 250027 (VX35) Lieutenant Colonel John Ackland Bishop DSO MBE; T/Sergeant E. Okazaki (Allied Translator Interperter Service) US Army HQ 6th Australian Division; Captain Collins, interpreter; Sergeant G. Tando, interpreter.
