Studio portrait of brothers 2202 Corporal Edward Maxwell (left) and 16211 Sapper (Spr) Frank Maxwell. A carpenter prior to enlistment, Edward Maxwell embarked as a private with the 6th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, from Sydney aboard HMAT Karoola (A63) on 16 June 1915. He was killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917, aged 23. Also a carpenter prior to enlistment, Spr Frank Maxwell embarked with the November 1916 Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Suevic (A29) on 11 November 1916. Sapper Maxwell transferred to the 5th Field Company Engineers and returned to Australia on 4 June 1919.
