Outdoor group portrait of five Australian officers posing in front of the pyramids in Egypt. Identified from left to right: Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Charles (Charlie) Hamilton, 23rd Battalion from Upper Hawthorn, Victoria; 2nd Lt Norman Gilbert Pelton, 24th Battalion from Yarraville, Victoria (killed in action on 12 May 1917 at Mametz, France); 2nd Lt Harold Maughan Pullin, 24th Battalion from East Malvern, Victoria; 2nd Lt Robert Irvine Hillard, 22nd Battalion from Beef Lead, Victoria (later Major Hillard MC, 7th Battalion); and 2nd Lt Cecil Beaumont Mills, 23rd Battalion from Auburn, NSW (killed in action on 4 August 1916 at Pozieres, France). On page 5 of a letter dated 18-12-1915 written by Cecil Beaumont Mills (held in collection PR00932) Oscar Asche is named as their guide. He can be seen seated on a donkey in front of the group.
