Description

This image depicts the HMAS 'Ipswich' in action during the Sicily landings of July 1943 near the ports of Augusta and Syracuse. It records the attack that took place on the the escort ships after they had delivered their convoy safely into the ports. The source of the billowing black smoke in the background is the burning tanker 'Fishpool'.
