Description

TAPE 1: Early life; enlisting in army; preparations for departure to Rabaul with 2/22nd Battalion; daily activities in Rabaul before Japanese invasion; Japanese invasion; end of resistance by Australians; avoiding Japanese troops; criss-crossing the island seeking evacuation. TAPE 2: Making way to New Guinea; return to Australia; posted to anti- aircraft unit in Victoria; then posted to training Battalion driving cars and trucks; applied for and granted discharge in 1944.
