Description
Related to the First World War service of 280 Private Stanley Broome, 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment. Collection consists of a photocopy of a bound typescript of letters written by Pte Broome. The typescript was compiled in 1988. The letters describe active service at Gallipoli, hospitalisation at Lemnos, Alexandria and Port Said. Due to illness he returned to Australia in January 1916, and once recovered returned to Egypt in October. The letters continue after his return and describe the conscription debate, numerous patrols and minor engagements with Turkish forces, and the Australian attack at Beersheba.
