Album relating to the service of Frank Hingston McDonagh in the First World War and Second World War
Small photograph album relating to 3152 / 7738 Private Frank Hingston McDonagh, 13th Battalion. Album contains 69 photographs, with handwritten annotations, and 1 cheque. Images include landscapes and portraits taken at Liverpool Camp, NSW; Halifax, Canada; Candahar Barracks, England; Colombo, Ceylon; Suez Canal, Egypt and various scenes behind the Western Front in France and Belgium.
Private McDonagh enlisted on 31 July 1915, aged 18 years, and joined the 1st Battalion until he was medically discharged and returned to Australia in 1916. In August 1917, he re-enlisted and served with the 13th Battalion. After the war, McDonagh served in various militia units before enlisting again in the Second World War (VX55292) and joining Z Special Unit.
