Diary relating to the First World War service of 30137 Gunner Alexander Sutherland Mackay, 8th Australian Field Artillery Brigade. This diary, written between 27 October 1917 and the 4 March 1918, covers: his return to action near Stinking Farm; the comforts found in the trench left by the English soldiers; his apprehension of being moved from his position on the front line; the actions he observed at the front line; his leave in Paris; meeting up with his brother, Ronald Stuart Mackay; his return to the front; his plan to start up a private's mess using much of the supplies left over from the previous battery and how the weather is affecting the German attack methods.
