Description
A sign in front of a corrugated iron building at the 1st Australian Task Force (ATF) base. The sign reads: "Welcome Hoa Long 50/50 dance at rice mill every Saturday night. Gals, grog, gaiety from $4." The sign was a hoax, aimed at deceiving soldiers who had recently arrived in Vietnam. From time to time supposedly, some unsuspecting new arrivals dressed themselves up on Saturday nights and reported for the non-existent dance. Hoa Long was a village and Viet Cong stronghold located about one kilometre from the ATF base.
