Description
Speech made in Adelaide, February 1988, relating experiences as a prisoner of war on Sumatra after the bombing and sinking of the "Vyner Brooke" off Banka Island. Includes comments concerning refusal by nurses to staff Japanese brothel, poor sanitation and burial of the dead, generosity of Dutch women and sad memories of nurses who died in captivity. Also includes photocopies of birthday greetings ("The Captives' Prayer") from Miss Margaret Dryburgh, Palembang, October 1942, and of postcard sent home in March 1943.
