Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one letter [with associated envelope] written by Steward Wellington to his brother Leslie Wellington, and sister-in-law Vida Zoe Wellington (née Davidson). This letter was written during Steward Wellington’s service aboard the HMAS Shropshire in Tokyo Bay, Japan, and is dated 1 September 1945. In this letter he writes regarding the surrender of the Japanese. He describes various Allied battleships and submarines, previous days fighting in Manila and the signing of the official surrender agreement aboard the USS Missouri. The associated envelope includes signatures of various servicemen aboard the HMAS Shropshire.
