Stanner, William Edward Hanley
Transcript of personal diary covering the period 19 July to 16 October 1942, providing an insight into Stanner's objectives for NAOU, selection and deployment of personnel, transport and equipment difficulties, and his assessment of the defensive situation in Northern Australia, particularly in the Broome area.(Transcribed by Dr A. Vane) Also includes: post-war correspondence regarding a war-time incident in Borneo; 15 photographs relating to Australians in Borneo during the Second World War; official records relating to Japanese occupation of Borneo in 1942 and their surrender in 1945; and the Australian military's contribution to legal administration of Borneo, after the surrrender, on behalf of the British Borneo Civil Affairs Unit (BBCAU). Stanner was a member of the BBCAU.
