Description
Namibia. c.1989-11. Two Australians wearing United Nations blue berets lean out the back of a UN Buffel MPV (Mine Protected Vehicle) as the vehicle tows a bogged UN landrover out of deep sand. The boss of the second Australian contingent to UNTAG (United Nations Transition Assistance Group), Lieutenant Maddock, is responsible for having got the landrover stuck. The Buffels were often called on to provide towing assistance because of their power and balloon tyres. Unfortunately many of the Buffels were struck with mechanical problems and parts were difficult to find. Several members of the second Australian contingent to UNTAG take photographs of the event.
