Bastian, Henry John (Warrant Officer) 1917-1989
Description
Manuscript written by Warrant Officier Henry John Bastian, "Harry, why we don't forget". Bastian documents his enlistment in the Royal Australian Air Force as a trainee pilot, training at Tamworth and conversion to Hurricanes in England. Bastian served with the 33 Squadron RAF at Edku, Egypt and was captured by the Germans after being shot down near Daba. He describes his internment as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft I, Barth and Stalag Luft VI, Heydekrug, including camp conditions and his participation in the 'run up the road' near Kiefheide. The manuscript also include copies of log books, correspondence and photographs.
