Anzac Cove, Gallipoli. 1915-12-19. Interior of a communications trench on the right flank used by members of No. 2 Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers. The photograph features the lower part of the trench with Lance Corporal Frederick Dilworth, Headquarters Surveyor, at the end. The caption for the photograph, written by Sergeant Cyril Lawrence, reads `The ground was so rotten and had been so blown about by the shells that we just had to dig deeply and build the sides up with sandbags - revetting it is called'.
