Description

Black glengarry, with red tourie, feather hackle, and red, white and black diced border. Lined with black polished cotton. Bottom of cap bound with black silk. Brown (originally black?) and white feather hackle, 19 cm long, bound with black grosgrain ribbon. Missing badge and cap ribbons.

History / Summary

Worn by James Black-Stevenson, born London, educated in Scotland. Worked in India for the Assam Tea Company c1876-1890. Also served with Mounted Rifles, Indian Army. Married Caroline Blakspeare in 1883. Migrated to South Australia in 1890 for sake of wife's health. Served c1900-1902 with the South Australian Scottish Company and the Adelaide Rifles. Died 1934. Survived by three daughters. Only son of the marriage killed in the First World War.
