Description

Kodak No. 2A folding cartridge hawk-eye model B camera with Kodex No. 1 shutter. The metal camera body has rounded ends and is finished in black textured leatherette. A hinged door fitted to the front of the camera opens to expand the lens as required. The lens housing is mounted to a blackened metal plate, connected to a collapsible black paper and fabric bellows, which can be extended along a sliding focusing mechanism. There is a swivelling prismatic glass viewfinder, allowing photographs to be taken in landscape or portrait format. Fitted to the top of the camera is a spool winder and a leather carry strap. A metal sliding double catch opens and locks the film compartment. The camera uses No. 116 film. Written in pencil on the inside of the film compartment is 'Reward' and 'If Found Please Return to Alyson Mills 19 Dudley Rd Rose Bay Sydney N.S.W. Australia'.

History / Summary

Associated with the service of NX70208 Staff Nurse Alyson Manning Mills (later Wheeler), born in Sydney on 8 January 1914. Mills enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service on 9 August 1940 and served on 2/1 Australian Hospital Ship Manunda which saw service in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
