Collection consists of a letter dated 17 July 1916 by Cecil Ashdown to his mother regarding fighting and his opinion of the French countryside; four others letters all regarding Cecil's death in action at Fromelles and subsequent burial - one from a soldier in the same company as Ashdown, one from his sister Maud (a nursing sister in the Australian Army Nursing Service), and two from his brother Clive (who was in the same company as his brother).
