Description

Studio portrait of 898 Corporal (Cpl) William Alexander Jackson, 19th Battalion, of Albury, NSW. Educated at Albury Grammar School, he enlisted in his home town on 1 March 1915. Serving with the AIF, Cpl Jackson was killed in action on the support line in the Ploegsteert Wood Sector, Belgium, on 22 December 1917. He was employed as a clerk at Anthony Hordern prior to his enlistment. His portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War.
