Back them up! A British cruiser ramming an Italian submarine in the Mediterranean
This 1942 British Second World War poster was created by His Majesty's Stationary Office on behalf of the Ministry of Information and features artwork by Marus (Marc) Stone. The poster depicts a British cruiser ramming an Italian submarine in the Mediterranean. During the Second World War this was somewhat of a last resort attack, albeit one that was used, for British cruisers when sighting Axis submarines. The poster was likely produced to show the general public the sort of work that was done by Allied navies, with the phrase 'back them up' referring to continuing the fight and efforts on the home front.
This was one of a series of posters all with the same title. This item has been digitised with funding provided by Commonwealth Government.
