Come along, boys! enlist today.
Depicts a cheerful British infantry soldier with his rifle slung across his soldier, and a pipe in his mouth. His comfortable and relaxed attitude reflects the accompanying text, which reads, '"The moment the order came to go forward, there were smiling faces everywhere.'" The message of the poster is that war is an enjoyable challenge - this may mean this poster is an early piece from the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, as it would not have been a believable message as the war continued, and the wounded returned home. Reinforcing this speculation is the conventional layout of the poster, which is simple and somewhat quaint in comparison to later recruitment posters, which played with text and layout and used bright colours and bold contrast to appeal to the eye. This poster was produced by the Great Britain Parliament Recruiting Committee during the First World War, poster no.22. W H Caffyn was an artist and illustrator.
