Informal outdoor portrait of 950 Private (Pte) William Frederick Logan, 3rd Battalion from Quirindi, NSW. A 33 year old storeman prior to enlisting on 20 August 1914, he embarked for overseas service with B Company from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. After disembarking in Egypt, he underwent further training before embarking for Gallipoli. During the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, his landing boat was struck by shrapnel and sunk. Pte Logan was wounded and evacuated to the Hospital Ship Galeka where he died from his wounds on that same day. He was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
