Description
Diaries for 1914-1915 and 1918. Powell was a wireless telegraphist aboard HMAS Encounter in 1914 and is reputed to have been the first to receive a transmission that war had been declared. In November 1918 he was aboard HMAS Australia at Rosyth and records in his diary the surrender of the German Grand Fleet.
