Description

Papers of Lieutenant Colonel Charles Hercules Green DSO, and Olwyn Green, relating to his service with the 2/2 Battalion in North Africa and Greece, and the 2/11 Battalion in New Guinea during the Second World War. Other papers document Green's service with 3RAR during the Korean War. Collection comprises correspondence from Charles to Olwyn, 1943-1950, photograph albums of 2/2 and 2/11 Battalions in Egypt, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and New Guinea and service documents including pay books. Other records used by Olwyn Green while writing her husband's biography, "The Name's still Charlie", comprise manuscript drafts, newspaper cuttings and correspondence with Angus and Robertson and the University of Queensland Press. Files relating to Olwyn's studies on 3 Royal Australian Regiment in the Korean War include testimonials from Korean War veterans (all RAR battalions) and 41 Byron Scottish Regiment, articles on principal battles fought by 3RAR, casualty figures, copies of official government documents relating to the Korean War, correspondence with servicemen 1994-2001, photographs and maps.
