Cox, Charles Frederick, DSO CB CMG (Major-General)
Description
Handwritten field diary, 28 November 1916-30 April 1918, kept by Brigadier General Charles Frederick Cox as Commanding Officer of the 1st Australian Light Horse Brigade. Contained within the diary are typescript carbon copy reports (generally two pages each) from Brigade Headquarters detailing particular operations. The field diary appears to have been transcribed directly as the official diary for the unit (AWM4) with the typescript reports as appendices. There is detail of the major operations such as at Beersheba and Gaza as well as the daily routines of swimming, parades, cleaning saddlery and musketry training.
