Description
Diary compiled in a cloth covered notebook by Private Donald Ross of the 23rd Battalion, during the First World War. The entries cover the period 1 January 1916-4 August 1916 relating to his concerns about his professional responsibilities for feeding and supplying the men and caring for horses and equipment. The diary offers detailed insight into the work of the battalion's transport section and the risks they were subjected to such as artillery bombardment and air attacks. Entries at the back of the diary record names and addresses, notes on horse anatomy and management, hymns and poems.
